Originally there were two books in the series ‘Hillsborough by Her People’ and 'The Second Hillsborough by Her People’, and were first published in 1981 and 1983 respectively,by a local history group based at Chaucer Adult Education Centre and led by Dr Helen Mathers.
The books themselves were based on memories of Hillsborough stretching back into the 19th century and beyond, from the origins of the name its evolution its lords of the manor and describes
its shops, its schools, its churches and much much more. It describes what life was like for people living then.
The two books were republished in their present form by the Hillsborough Community Development Trust (HCDT) in 2006. This edition has been made possible by the Hillsborough and Owlerton Local History Group to whom all proceeds of this book will go.
